The 2006 Strike King Ever-Bloom Classic was a nail biter. Saturday's starting temperature was 35 degrees and wind gusts were well over 30 mph. To show just how tough the anglers are in Central Illinois there were 20 fish caught for a very respectable 51.85 pounds of bass.
Vicious Fishing Big Bass on day one was caught by Whitacre and Estes and it weighed 5.73 pounds.
The team of Scott Bree and AJ(Flash) Bailey led after the first day with 12.04 lbs followed closely by Richard(you can call me Dusty) Whitacre and Brian Estes with 11.96 pounds.
A total of 10 teams caught bass.
Day two was a much better with light winds and temps reaching 60 degrees. Early tournament forecasts called for Evergreen to give up big bags as pre fishing was superb. Most teams felt it was going to take between 12-15 pounds to win. Of course Mother Nature had other plans and it was a very tough bite. There were only 14 fish caught at a respectable 3.65 pounds average but the pickings were indeed slim.
Dusty Whitacre and Brian Estes squeaked out the win over Scott Bree and AJ Bailey by only 4.8 ounces and were crowned the 2006 Strike King Classic Champions.
In third place were Jerry Martoglio and Loren Peters with a 12.57 pound two day total and they also secured the Vicious Fishing Big Bass Award and two Setyr Rods as first out of the money.
This is the 4th Classic where a new team has taken all the marbles. Year one was Mike Blake and Terry Brown, year two Andy Wegner and Jim Crowley, year three was Scott Bree and AJ Bailey took the honors and of course, your reigning champions for 2006 are Dusty Whitacre and Brian Estes. They will be Classic champs through 2007.
Thanks to everyone for participating in this years trail and we look forward to 2007. Terry and Mike
